Mayor Brown says he ‘struggled to find logic’ in mandatory closure of Brampton restaurants

With the number of new COVID-19 cases continuing to climb and while some agree with Ontario’s decision to revert to a modified version of Stage 2, many small business owners do not agree.
The first closure was devastating on many small businesses–particularly those in the foodservice industry, which is why Mayor Patrick Brown discussed the importance of supporting local businesses during a conference on October 14.
“Many of these restaurants have poured their heart and soul into building a family enterprise and now is the time to support them,” said Brown at the conference.
During an exclusive interview with Khaled Iwamura from inbrampton.com, Mayor Patrick Brown said that he had spoken to Premier Doug Ford before the Region of Peel had reverted back to a modified version of Stage 2.
“They were really relying on Dr. Williams, the Provincial Medical Officer of Health and I believe maybe his recommendations made sense when it came to Toronto, where there is a different picture,” said Brown.
“I struggled to see the logic of closing restaurants and recreation facilities in Peel Region when we haven’t had a single forward case.”
As for whether these restaurants and local businesses will be allowed to reopen in 28 days, Brown says it’s “tough to predict.”
