The lockdown in Brampton and the rest of Peel Region will continue throughout January.

Premier Doug Ford has confirmed the news after conferring with senior health officials across the province today.

While the current lockdown measures imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19 were supposed to end this coming Monday, it is expected the Ontario government will announce early next week how long the new lockdown measures will last and if further restrictions will be put into place.

Peel, combined with Toronto, currently makeup about half of Ontario’s new cases of the virus each day with Brampton being the most infected area in the province on a per capita basis.

Brampton is currently part of the grey lockdown, Ontario’s most severe level, which means people should only go out for essential reasons, limit activities to include current household members, and have no social gatherings. It also means the closure of most stores.
