There are some new townhomes coming to Brampton, and they fit into a larger scheme of things for the city going forward.

Dubbed the ‘Southside Towns’, this is a new residential community across the street from the future Hurontario LRT station at Shoppers World, as you can see from the map below.

Currently, construction has already started on Phase 1 and Phase 2 units are already on sale.

When completed, this new townhome development is supposed to look like this, as per this artistic rendering:

This is a map of the site plan:

According to a fact sheet sent by the developer, Southside Towns will consist of 103 luxurious, contemporary townhomes, each with a private terrace and underground parking, located in the part the city known as Uptown Brampton, a new urban centre envisioned as part of the city’s new Vision 2040.

Other planned amenities include:

  • Transit network and new core loop, walking and cycling networks, virtual networks and new travel technologies.

  • Beautified streetscapes for people, with trees everywhere, designed communities.

  • A new Eco-Park, emphasizing sustainable living integrated into everything.

“The underground parking helps make community more pedestrian friendly, as owners choosing not to own a car can easily get around on foot or by public transit. It is really a catalyst of grand planning and neighbourhood development into an urban possibility,” said Sam DeCaria from i2 Developments during a presentation for media.

“Our suburbs need to be reimagined as complete communities,” Antonietta Minichillo, a former manager on the Brampton Vision 2040 project, also said during the event, adding how Vision 2040 was the largest public engagement process done by the city to date, with every demographic represented.

Minichillo went on further to comment on how Uptown Brampton incorporates a strong environmental aspect, stressing the ‘Net Zero’ benefits with amenities such as stormwater management, district and solar energy. She also mentioned talks with RioCan, who owns the Shoppers World property, about future development opportunities in the strip plaza, possibly into a more mixed-use community in line with Vision 2040.

Some more features of Southside Towns include the following:

  • The homes will start off in the $600,000 range.

  • There are top-floor terraces with some views of adjacent parkland.

  • 3-4 four-bedroom designs that range from around 1,600 to 1,800 square feet.

  • Heated underground parking.

  • Four floors of living space, with optional fifth for owners who opt to finish their basements on parking level.

  • Nine-foot ceilings on the main living area and master bedroom level.

  • Solid oak handrails and pickets.

  • Brushed nickel hardware on all interior doors.

  • Luxury flooring including ceramic tile and plush nylon broadloom.

  • Chef’s kitchen and custom-designed quality cabinetry.

As the next phase of Brampton’s development moves forward, expect to see more townhomes of this style popping up, not just in ‘Uptown Brampton’ but everywhere across Canada’s ninth largest city.
