The tree lighting takes place tonight in Ken Whillans Square, and Brampton’s massive tree will be lit up at about 6:20 p.m.

But have you ever wondered just how many lights are on Brampton’s Christmas tree?

Well, there are two fun facts about the tree that you can impress your friends and family with as the tree lights up tonight:

First, according to the City, Brampton’s Christmas tree boasts a whopping over 15,000 lights. That’s right, the towering tree that symbolizes when Christmas has officially begun in Brampton is wrapped in not just hundreds, but thousands of shiny lights.

Second, Brampton’s Christmas tree is a spruce that stands tall at 60 feet!

Think about how many of you would have to be stacked on top of one another to reach that tree’s height. 

The tree lighting is an annual, free event, and this year it will run concurrently to Brampton’s Christmas Market, which also kicks off today and is set to run all weekend.

There is a lot of fun and entertainment planned for tonight, so if you’re going to the tree lighting, here are some of the details:

The entire festival is slotted for 6-8 p.m. in downtown Brampton. There will be a toy drive, and such entertainment as a fire performance, letters to Santa, an ice scultping demo, a princess show, Christmas crafts, and an LED hula hoop performance.

According to the City, a whopping estimated 10,000 people showed up for Brampton’s tree lighting in 2016!

In fact, the tree lighting is one of Brampton’s biggest events. It’s so big that it made the Festivals and Events Ontario Top 100 List alongside CELEBrampton, Brampton Canada Day Celebrations, the Jambana One World Festival.

As for the Christmas Market, it’s taking place in downtown Brampton for its sixth year on Friday, November 17 from 4-10 p.m., Saturday, November 18 from 12-9 p.m., and Sunday, November 19 from 12-6 p.m.
