At a May 20 conference, Mayor Patrick Brown discussed additional measures to help cope with the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and announced the launch of a “shop local” campaign.

Today’s conference featured Mayor Patrick Brown, Councillors Martin Madeiros and Rowena Santos and Dr. Lawrence Loh, Interim Medical Officer of Health, Peel Region.

While many small businesses have been greatly affected by the pandemic, Brampton’s “shop local” campaign, encourages residents to shop, eat, gift and show support to local businesses that may be struggling during these unprecedented times.

“This is a tough time for small businesses. We want to make sure that there are opportunities to support these small mom and pop shops,” said Brown.

“Our businesses need this support more the never, given this isn’t just a health pandemic, it’s an economic firestorm.”

Brown went on to explain that the campaign will aim to give small businesses a “boost” and encourage residents to support them amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“There are many ways we can support our businesses; from ordering takeout food to purchasing gift cards and items to watching the Rose [Theatre] online performances,” said Brown.
