City of Brampton launches festive winter wonderland

Winter Wonderland is headed to Brampton
Last week, Mayor Patrick Brown announced that Brampton is embarking on an ambitious program to get people outdoors for exercise during the pandemic.
To be called Winter Wonderland, the program will see a variety of new settings for activities spread out across the city and provide opportunities for skating, cross-country skiing, and walking.
“We’re trying to adapt to these new conditions,” said Brown. “We know that indoor recreation has been closed, but we also know that cardiac issues and obesity are problems in our community. We also know there are benefits to mental health that come with physical activities. So, we have been working on a program to have safe physical activity outdoors. We are going to bring out a slew of activities like the city has never seen before.”
The Winter Wonderland will see four new ice rinks (Valleybrook Park, Earnscliffe Park, Jim Archdekin Recreation Centre, Flower City Recreation Centre), and, as mentioned, new cross-country, snowshoeing and walking trails.
There will also be some fun pop-up family activities including fort building and snow art.

Residents will also be able to request their own neighbourhood ice rink by forming a committee of at least five residents in your neighbourhood and send an email to [email protected] to submit the request.
According to the Brampton website, once approved, Brampton Parks staff will set up boards for your rink at a designated location in your neighbourhood and provide and maintain the water source for the ice.
Your group will be responsible for flooding, maintaining, supervising and filling out daily inspection sheets.
Brown said all activities will be set up so that all pandemic safety measures are followed.
Winter Wonderland is expected to be running by December 18.
