Investigators with the York Regional Police #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged a 20-year-old man after he stole a vehicle from Vaughan and ended up in a collision in Brampton before he fled the scene on foot.
Police say on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, shortly after 4:30 p.m., York Regional Police responded to a report of a vehicle that had been stolen from the driveway of a residence located in the area of Rutherford Road and Simons Avenue.
The York Regional Police helicopter Air2 was first on scene and located the stolen vehicle driving on Rutherford Road, according to police.
Officers in the helicopter followed the stolen vehicle and a uniform patrol car attempted to stop the vehicle, which was fleeing at high speeds, police say.

The patrol officer did not pursue out of concern for the safety of other motorists, however, the stolen vehicle continued to be followed by Air2, according to police.
Police say the vehicle drove into the Region of Peel where it was observed travelling at high rates of speed, driving through red lights and stop signs, as well as driving over curbs and sidewalks.
The stolen vehicle eventually collided with another car at the intersection of Bovaird Drive West and Great Lakes in Brampton, according to police.
The driver of that vehicle was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and the suspect exited the stolen vehicle and fled on foot, according to police.
Police say he was observed attempting to carjack numerous vehicles but was unsuccessful.
According to police, with the assistance of officers from Peel Regional Police, the suspect was placed under arrest inside of a nearby pharmacy a short time later.
