Catholic school students, much like their public school counterparts, could return

Catholic school students, much like their public school counterparts, could return to school a little later than Sept. 8, according to a letter posted on the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board’s (DPCDSB) website.

According to the Aug. 23 letter, the board–which operates Catholic schools in Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon–will initiate a staggered start to the school year for both elementary and secondary students.

The board also said it will follow public health recommendations and require students in Grades 1 through 12 to wear a mask or face-covering while indoors at school.

Masks and face-coverings are also strongly recommended for Kindergarten students, the board wrote.

Accommodations and exemptions will apply to students who cannot wear masks or face-coverings for medical reasons.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding that our community has afforded us as we continue to prepare for school re-opening in a rapidly changing landscape and acknowledge the uncertainty and anxiety that parents/guardians are faced with as we approach the start of the 2020-21 school year,” the letter reads.

The board said details on the staggered start, mask policy and more will be shared with families on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
