Canadians could be facing winter tire shortage due to pandemic

Now that Halloween is over, the clocks have changed, and Christmas decorations have started to hit the shelves, it’s time to start thinking about winter.
One potential side-effect of the pandemic that few people likely saw coming is a shortage of tires.
This year, due to the fact border restrictions remain in place, many snowbirds who usually spend the winter in the U.S. will likely be staying north of the border, and driving an increase in online shopping and demand for winter tire installation as a result.
Additionally, the increase in demand could be further exacerbated by a slowdown in tire production at the beginning of the year.
Further, according to a news release from PMCtire, many Canadians chose to leave their winter tires on through the summer during the initial wave of the pandemic.
This could result in many having to replace their winter tires, as the treads degrade more quickly if used during the summer due to the way the hot temperatures interact with the softer rubber.

Moreover, mechanical shops have had to implement additional safety measures due to the second wave of the virus, which could cause delays for those with tires who need them installed.
