A major nursery is closing down this year.
According to the Landscape Ontario Horticultural Trades Association, Humber Nurseries has sold its land in a deal closing December 2019.
Though, it is not certain why they are closing its doors since the company has not made a public announcement as of yet.
Humber Nurseries is one of Ontario’s oldest and largest outdoor living centres. It is located on 8386 Highway 50. In fact, Humber Nurseries recently celebrated their 70th anniversary.

For those of you who may not know, Humber Nurseries is an industry leader in the production and supply of annuals, perennials, ornamental grasses, herbs and aquatic plants with varieties that are not commonly available at other nurseries and garden centres. They have over 135 different varieties of ornamental grasses, 3,000 different perennials, 190 herbs and over 60 aquatic plants growing in our greenhouses, along with a selection of trees, shrubs and evergreens that is second to none.
With over 25,000 square foot, their Brampton location offers a large selection of giftware, pottery, garden furniture, fertilizers, insecticides, lawn fixtures, hand tools, soils and mulches.
According to the Humber Nurseries, Frans L. Peters created the first location in 1948 when he rented ten acres of land near the Humber River from the Wilson family in nearby Mount Dennis. In 1959, they set up two greenhouses brought from the Valley. The flourishing ten-acre (25,000 square feet) business on Highway 50 represents the fulfillment of a dream for Peters and his wife, whose combined talents and ambition nurtured the enterprise to maturity. On April 10, 2010, at the age of 89, Peters passed away.
Humber Nurseries also has a 100-acre farm in Caledon East that is still growing. According to the Landscape Ontario Horticultural Trades Association, a new Humber Nurseries business is planned to open in Caledon in 2020, which will focus on wholesale and landscape trade supply.
