If you love books, fun programming, and just Brampton Library in general, you’re in for a treat!

If you love books, fun programming, and just Brampton Library in general, you’re in for a treat! Canada’s most efficient library system is about to grow a little larger with a new, temporary location.

And a lot larger after that.

An interim library branch is set to be developed in 2018, in anticipation of the city’s permanent combined facility and community centre that will be built in the coming years.

Brampton’s interim library will be located in the southwest area of Mississauga Road and Financial Drive.

This is exciting news — Brampton Library offers an abundance of services at its seven current locations, but there are some areas of Brampton that could use the library’s services at easier to access locations.

According to Brampton Library, residents in the Mississauga/Financial area currently have to travel more than six kilometres to access another library, the closest ones being Mount Pleasant branch and South Fletcher’s branch.

With Brampton’s rapid growth — we’re the ninth largest city in Canada and the second fastest growing of Canada’s largest cities — it’s true that Brampton Library’s expansion will benefit the entire city.

The things you can do with a Brampton Library card are pretty magical, after all. You can download books and newspapers online, use 3D printers, rent DVDs, kick it old school and take out books, and much more.

Let’s not forget about Brampton Library’s programs. Our library system hosts free e-learning services, programming for newcomers, workshops on career success, book clubs, and beyond.

So, it’s no surprise that there’s demand for another library. Program attendance is growing, materials are requested in 20 different languages, and services are needed.

Brampton Library’s much anticipated Springdale Branch is also set to open in January 2018, a mobile library is coming, more STEM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Math) programming is in the works, and Brampton Library is essentially preparing for a new flagship location as part of the Centre for Innovation coming to downtown Brampton.

For now, we’ll keep you posted on details for the interim location as they emerge, as this interim branch is part of Brampton’s proposed 2018 budget, which is set for approval on December 6. Stay tuned!
