If you love Brampton Library and you love reading, you’ll be excited to know that a mobile van could soon improve library access to underserviced communities in Brampton, according to Brampton’s 2018-2020 budget.
The budget has yet to be approved (approval date has been set for December 6, 2017), but if this goes through, it could change the face of the library system in Brampton by adding this cool new aspect.
Currently, Brampton Library is Canada’s most efficient library system, and adding a mobile library to our library scene could add to that efficiency.

Brampton’s population is growing, and while Springdale Library is set to open in January 2018, an interim library branch is coming to Mississauga Road and Financial Road, and a new flagship central library is set to be built in the coming years as part of Brampton’s university project, the demand for Brampton Library services is growing alongside Brampton’s population.
According to the budget, in 2016 alone, people visited Brampton’s seven library branches well over two million times — 2,008,015 times in fact. Further, citizens borrowed 4,387,158 free print and digital items, and 158,288 citizens participated in 5,318 free programs and workshops.
You can do a lot of cool things with your Brampton Library card — like enrol in courses, kick it oldschool and borrow DVDs, use 3D printers, and, of course, take out books.
It’ll be interesting to see details as they arise, and see the mobile library van hit the streets in the coming years, pending budget approval!
