Brampton’s First Record Label is Set to Showcase Emerging Talent

If you’re into new music and emerging indie and rock bands, you’re in luck — a very cool music showcase is coming to Brampton, thanks to Brampton’s first city-funded record label.

Did you know that Brampton has an independent record label? It’s true!

SounDrive Records is Brampton’s independent record label that was created in 2015 with artists in mind. SounDrive was “created from an artist perspective” and “looks to build a platform for hard-working musical talent who wish to make a living off of their craft,” say founders Dominic and Francesco Giuliano. 

Now, SounDrive is putting together the second part of a two-part music showcase called DRIVEWIRE at Brampton’s own Rose Theatre. Three emerging bands are set to take the stage at the Rose this Saturday, December 9, at 8 p.m. 

And you’re invited!

Co-owner and founder Dominic Guiliano says that the event aims to change the way people see both the Rose Theatre and the Brampton music industry. 

The Brampton music industry is a pretty big deal. We boast such musical talent as Tory Lanez and Alessia Cara, and SounDrive is bringing emerging talent to light through the DRIVEWIRE event. 

The first part of the two-part music showcase DRIVEWIRE took place at the Rose Theatre on October 21, 2017, gathering an energetic audience of over 60 people — that’s more than half of the Rose’s Studio Theatre — for the first ever DriveWire event. 

The October 21 event featured three bands: Mississauga-based alt-rock band Polarity, Oakville-based rock band The Ocean Cure, and the first Brampton-based band to grace the DRIVEWIRE stage, pop punk group Words Like Wildfire.

“DRIVEWIRE is far from your average indie show,” Giuliano told inbrampton.com. “Even during the first event, the atmosphere was incredible and it’s amazing to see not only how diverse the crowd is, but how passionate they are for great upcoming bands and great music in general.”

Brampton is a city that’s booming in a lot of ways — new developments like a university and a second full hospital are coming, our population is growing quickly, and our music scene is evidently thinking about the future, too.

“[DRIVEWIRE] truly provides a new look to the Brampton music scene and to the Rose Theatre as a whole that ultimately demonstrates what this city can become in the near future for music,” says Giuliano.

As for the Saturday show, three more indie bands are slated to perform: North Bay-based Break the Trend (currently signed to SounDrive), Toronto-based Uforia (in our cover photo), and Toronto-based Last Bullet. 

All of the bands are high-energy, and each of them puts their own spin on rock music. 

“Our goal was to provide up and coming Canadian acts a platform to perform to an audience that they may not have played in front of before, while saving the music lovers in Brampton some time and money by not having to always travel South of the 410 to see or support their favorite bands,” says Giuliano. “With that said, the more Brampton acts the better!”

So, if you’re looking for a lively Saturday night out, it’s a good idea to snag a ticket to DRIVEWIRE and maybe check out the lights in downtown Brampton while you’re at it.
