When Brampton residents grow together it can go a long way to help stock local food banks and feed those who are hungry.

The City of Brampton’s successful Backyard Garden Program returns for 2021 after raising over 10,000 pounds of produce last year for residents in need and food banks that include the Knights Table, Regeneration, Khalsa Aid and United Sikhs.

The eco-friendly program is open to all Brampton residents who, upon signing up, will be supplied with packages of seeds along with advice on planting in their own gardens.

Those participating are then encouraged to help support food drives in the city by donating their crops to food banks and community organizations.

Brampton City Councillor Doug Whillans, Chair of the Backyard Garden Program, grew celery and onions last year and donated it to the cause.

“This year, the program is open to new participants meaning even more residents will have the opportunity to participate in this excellent initiative,” said the councillor for Wards 2 and 6. “Get into the gardening, enjoy the outdoors, and give back this year!”
