She hails from Brampton and she won’t stop representing – the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) were on Sunday, and our very own Alessia Cara has done us proud once again.

The MTV VMAs took place on Sunday, and Cara was nominated for four of the popular awards, took home two of them, and stole the stage as she usually does with two inspirational performances,

The local songstress was nominated for Video of the Year with her classic “Scars to Your Beautiful,” Best Dance alongside Zedd for their jam “Stay,” Best Fight Against the System again with her classic “Scars to Your Beautiful,” and finally Best Direction (for her director Aaron A.) once again with her classic “Scars to Your Beautiful.”

She snagged two of those awards – Best Dance and Best Fight Against the System.

In the Best Dance category, Cara was up against such talent as Selena Gomez, Calvin Harris, and Justin Bieber!

But that’s not all – to cap off her success for the night, Cara did two inspirational performances throughout the night.

She performed “1-800-273-8255” alongside Logic, Khalid, and a stageful of suicide survivors, and a soulful “Scars to Your Beautiful” where she “smashed beauty standards” according to MTV – Cara was stripped of a glamourous dress and a wig in front of the crowd, seemingly to showcase natural beauty.

Cara’s success story is one that Brampton will definitely continue to follow!
