Brampton’s 2020 budget includes 0 per cent increase on property taxes

Fortunately for homeowners, the city will be implementing a freeze on property taxes meaning there will not be an increase apart of the City’s budget.
However, homeowners will still have to pay the 1.3 per cent increase that was approved by the Region of Peel in December, which amounts to an average of an additional $64 per household.
Additionally, Brampton’s net operating expenditures are increasing by $47 million for the year.

The total budget for 2020 is $977 million–$755 million operating and $222 million capital.
This includes contributions to the City’s reserves of $110 million.
Further, the 2020 budget will include a one per cent transit levy and a two per cent infrastructure levy.
Of the $977 million for the year, $52 million will be allocated to bus purchases–including eight electric buses; $41 million will be used to updates to roads and active transportation; $9.8 million will be used to improve sports fields, trails, and playgrounds over three years; $2 million will be spent on building new youth centres at Century Gardens and South Fletcher’s Recreation Centres; and $650,000 will be used to implement photo radar in community safety zones over the next three years.
