Brampton to receive funding for new electric vehicle charging stations

The City of Brampton recently announced that it will receive funding to install 12 new electric vehicle charging stations at four facilities by the end of 2021.
The City of Brampton recently announced that it will receive funding to install 12 new electric vehicle charging stations at four facilities by the end of 2021.
In 2019, Brampton made a commitment to being a Green City and Brampton City Council voted unanimously to declare a climate emergency while aiming to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated in the city by 80 per cent by 2050.
These charging stations were made possible through the City’s participation in the Peel Climate Change Partnership and Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program.
Electric vehicle charging stations will encourage residents to reevaulate how they get around as well as promote more sustainable transportation choices, which will in turn reduce GHGs.

The new electric vehicle charging stations will be installed at the following locations.
Two will be installed at Cassie Campbell Recreation Centre, two at Loafers Lake Recreation Centre, four at Chinguacousy Wellness Centre and four at Riverstone Community Centre.
Brampton currently has 53 existing electric vehicle charging stations at several municipal parking lots and City facilities and are free for the public to use.
The Peel Climate Change Partnership works together on projects and to secure funding that will help each member organization reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change.
The Partnership includes the Region of Peel, the City of Brampton, the Town of Caledon, Credit Valley Conservation, the City of Mississauga and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.
“As a Member of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, I am thrilled that the City is receiving funding for 12 new electric vehicle charging stations in Brampton,” said Mayor Patrick Brown.
“Brampton is a Green City, and with more sustainable transportation choices available locally, we can continue to work towards our ambitious target of reducing our GHGs by 80 per cent by 2050, together.”
