A champion of the local artist community is set to spearhead the City of Brampton’s ambitious vision for arts, culture and creative industries.

Nuvi Sidhu, a Project Management Consultant, is the new inaugural Chair of the City’s first Arts, Culture and Creative Industry Development Agency.

Having run NuvCo Inc. for the past five years, Sidhu has been utilizing her strong communications and project management skills to build relationships and support for Brampton’s emerging artist community.

The new organization, which will operate at arm’s length to the City and as a key partner, will help carry out the objectives articulated in Brampton’s strategic vision and Culture Master Plan.

“I look forward to reaching out to and working with the many talented artists and art organizations who contribute to the diversity of Brampton’s creative community,” said Sidhu, whose role was approved by City Council in January.

With 10 years of experience in the GTHA, she has worked with numerous artists and local non-profits managing artist showcases and developing workshops to support the creative sector.

“Collectively, with Brampton artists (as) the forefront, I hope we can work to see the vision for the agency to come to life,” Sidhu added.

Helping Sidhu to guide the startup will be Senior Program Lead Michael Vickers.

They’ll work together to form an independent non-profit to support a robust, creative and entrepreneurial ecology in Brampton.

“(Vickers) will provide leadership and strategic planning expertise for launching this new and exciting organization,” Sidhu said.

The new Agency is envisaged as an arts, culture and creative industry development agency aimed at incubating, growing, celebrating, advocating for and connecting through the sector through the provision of a range of programs, services and resources.

“This Agency will play a critical role in strengthening the arts as an economic driver and transforming the City’s current cultural environment into a thriving art scene – complete with opportunities to produce, participate in and consume creative products that drive cultural and community progress, attract investment and build Brampton’s identity,” Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown.

The City approved its Cultural Master Plan in 2018.

“Appointing a Chair who will oversee an advisory panel and provide governance and leadership is a milestone in the startup and development of Brampton’s first Arts, Culture and Creative Industry Development Agency,” said Harkirat Singh, City Councillor in Wards 9 & 10.
