Brampton residents of all ages could get second vaccine dose sooner under new Ontario plan

As the requirement for second dose vaccines drops to age 70 in Mississauga and Brampton, Ontario looks to move ahead quickly to get the needle into arms of people of all ages.
The Region of Peel has announced that as of Monday, June 7 second dose bookings will begin for residents aged 70 and over for those who received a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine on or before April 18. This will happen a week earlier than originally scheduled.
Appointments for this group begin at 8 a.m. by calling 1-833-943-3900 or online through the provincial booking system.
Meanwhile, Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott says the Province is looking at ways for letting Ontarians of all ages book second vaccine appointments by weeks or even months ahead of what was originally planned.
“We’re looking at all options because we need to stay ahead of this (Delta) variant so that we can then move into stage one and get life back more to normal for people as quickly as we can,” she said referring to the new name for the variant that came from India.
As part of this plan, the Province is looking at adopting a “first-in, first-out” program where second dose eligibility would be based on when people received their first dose, not on their age.

The acceleration of the vaccination program depends on the availability of doses which Elliott said doesn’t appear to be a problem in the foreseeable future.
As well, she said if the vaccines are delivered faster it would be done across Ontario and not just in hotspot communities such as Mississauga and Brampton.
