A Brampton resident with a baby on the way is celebrating after winning an enviable amount of cash with Lotto 6/49.
OLG recently announced that Brampton man Narvin Charan won $77,406 from the April 29 Lotto 6/49 draw. Narvin matched five numbers plus the bonus number to win a secondary prize.
“This win was a big surprise for a couple of reasons,” Charan told OLG while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “First, I had completely forgotten about this ticket and when I found it in my wallet, I was in a hurry.”
OLG said that Charan was at the gas station when he located his ticket.
“I quickly glanced at the ticket checker screen and thought I saw $77. That was great and I was planning to pick up the cash from the retailer. When I handed my ticket over, everything changed!”
According to OLG, the terminal froze.
“I know it doesn’t freeze for smaller amounts so I figured something was definitely going on. The manager told me that OLG would be calling the store soon to speak with me. I knew then that I won something big. I thought to myself, ‘Maybe it’s $700 or $7,000.’ It wasn’t until I was handed the validation slip that I realized I won more than $77,000.”
Charan drove home to share the good news with his wife.
“I’m a father with a growing family – two little girls and a third girl on the way. This win came at the right time!”
Charan already has plans for his windfall.
“We will be celebrating at an indoor waterpark in Niagara Falls and then we will wait for the birth of my third daughter. This win is really an investment for down the road. I have my eye on a piece of property and this prize will make for a great down payment. Winning the lottery is unbelievable. I am so grateful and excited about the future.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Petro Canada on Markham Road in Toronto.
