The Peel Public Health Department, representing Brampton and Mississauga, has entered into a friendly competition with their counterparts in Calgary in the Second Dose, Coast to Coast challenge.

The goal is to continue to increase second-dose coverage COVID-19 coverage in Canada so Canadians can take back their summer.

“We are challenging health units across the country to help take back our summer by getting their second dose as soon as possible,” said Dr. Lawrence Loh, Peel’s medical officer of health.

“We need Canadians to step up and get their second dose so we can increase broad coverage across the country and protect each other.”.

Canadian health officials agree second dose coverage is needed to help everyone get back to normal. The challenge will help to encourage Canadians to book their second dose appointment as soon as possible to protect themselves, their loved ones and their community.

Health units across Canada have been invited to participate by challenging another unit to a friendly competition. Full details on how to participate are available on our webpage.

“We all want to put the pandemic behind us,” said Dr. Jia Hu, Chair of 19 to Zero and a Calgary-based public health physician.

“The sooner we all get our second dose, the sooner we can get back to doing what we love. A little friendly competition to get us to our vaccination goal will help us take back our summer.”

In Peel, an all-night clinic will wrap up the challenge on July 10th-11th at the Save Max Sports Centre (formerly the Brampton Soccer Centre). This clinic will support many in our community who are only available to get vaccinated during late-night hours.

Residents can book their second dose appointment today and are encouraged to share a picture of their second dose and tag @regionofpeel and use #2dosechallenge.
