Brampton mayor petitioning to allow vaccinated essential workers to attend next Leafs game

Brampton mayor Patrick Brown is calling on Ontario’s Medical Officer of Health to temporarily ease restrictions so vaccinated essential workers and healthcare workers can attend the Maple Leafs game tomorrow (Monday, May 31).
In an open letter to Dr. David Williams on May 30, Brown asked Ontario follow Quebec’s lead and allow spectators at sporting events.
“The Quebec premier had lifted restrictions so that 2,500 people were able to attend a physically distant playoff game in Montreal last night. Ontario should do the same so that healthcare heroes and other essential workers can attend game 7 on Monday,” said Brown, who believes there would be limited to zero risk of transmission as most essential workers and healthcare workers in attendance would be fully vaccinated.
“They have sacrificed so much during the pandemic and it would be great to recognize their heroic efforts.”
The Leafs are set to face off in Game 7 against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
The Brampton mayor, who is an avid hockey fan himself, is asking residents to sign the petition to allow 2,500 healthcare workers and essential workers to attend the game.

Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe says having some people back in the building would be a sign of progress.
“This is less about the game and our sport and the playoffs,” said Keefe. “It’s about the progress being made in the country and I think that’s a really good sign.”
