Brampton man arrested in relation to bank robberies

Investigators from the Central Robbery Bureau have arrested a male in relation to two bank robberies.

Police say on Friday, October 16th, 2020, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a suspect entered a financial institution in the area of  McLaughlin Road and Bovaird Drive in Brampton. 

The suspect approached the teller and produced a handwritten note demanding money, according to police. 

The teller complied and turned over a quantity of Canadian currency before the suspect exited the bank and was last seen fleeing on foot, police say.

According to police, on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at 12:44 p.m., the same suspect attended a financial institution located in the area of Highway 50 and Fogal Road in Brampton.

The suspect attended the teller and produced a handwritten note demanding money and the teller complied and turned over a quantity of Canadian currency, police say.

Through a detailed criminal investigation, the suspect was identified.

On October 21, 2020, at 2:13 p.m., Gaurav Jassal, a 25-year-old man from Brampton, was arrested and charged with two counts of robbery and wear disguise with intent.

He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice for a bail hearing.
