Although it’s always good news when someone takes home a big win, it’s doubly exciting when that win is $1 million.
Now, Brampton residents Trevor Gordon and Rosemarie Allen-Gordon are officially millionaires after winning $1 million with Lotto Max Maxmillions in the Feb. 3 draw.
“I found out about our win just days following my 65th birthday,” Trevor Gordon told OLG at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “It was the best birthday and retirement gift I could have received!”
According to OLG, Gordon was the first to learn about his absolutely incredible win.
“I was with a friend and I decided to go into a store that had a sign outside stating, ‘$1 Million ticket sold here.’ I handed my ticket to the retailer and the words, ‘Big Winner’ appeared on the screen. I couldn’t believe it! The terminal froze and OLG called the store and asked to speak with me. That’s when I learned I won $1 million. I asked the person on the phone ‘Is this a joke?’ and was told, ‘Not at all.’”
After that, Gordon shared the good news with his friend.
“I asked him to keep it a secret until I had a chance to share with my family. Before we left the store, I took a picture holding my ticket, under the LOTTO MAX Big Winner sign in front of the store.”
Gordon told OLG that he and his wife, Rosemarie, already had a family celebration planned that weekend.
“I decided to tell the whole family, including my wife, at the same time. I said, ‘I have something to show you,’ [before passing the ticket to the first person].”
Everyone was thrilled.
“They all started crying and screaming. It was an emotional moment.”
Rosemarie and Trevor have been married for 31 years.
“I met him when I was 14! Together we have three daughters and nine grandchildren ranging in age from seven months to 18 years,” Allen-Gordon said.
So, what will the lucky couple do with their windfall?
“With this prize we will be paying off our daughter’s’ student loans. All our grandkids will now have an education fund for their future. This million dollar prize will be enjoyed by us and our family. We would love to maybe take a family trip to Africa. It’s something we have both always dreamt of doing. All of our dreams have now come true. Winning the lottery means financial freedom and the opportunity to retire comfortably,” the pair told OLG.
Since its launch in September 2009, Ontario Lotto Max players have won over $3.7 billion in prizes, including 49 jackpot wins and 443 winning Maxmillions tickets from all across the province.
The winning ticket was purchased at Mac’s on Kennedy Road in Brampton.
