The second annual Jr. NBA Global Championship round-robin play was held recently in Florida. The Jr. NBA Global Championship is a youth basketball tournament for the top 13- and 14-year-old boys and girls from around the world.

The U14 Brampton Girls Warriors made it to the international games after an undefeated 50-0 season W/L record. The team had an average 26-point differential per game and an average 28 steals through the International Pool Play. Also, one of the games displayed the team’s balanced attack mentality as every member of the team scored.

The world was put on notice as the team went 3-0 to begin the tournament and claimed the #1 seed in the playoff bracket play.

“As a nation and country, we were able to watch the Canada Girls best their competition game-after-game; with the most satisfying being a 70-54 win against Latin America awarding them as the 2019 Jr. NBA International Champions (which was presented by 3x NBA Champion and Hall of Famer, Dwyane Wade),” says the Brampton Basketball team.

With that win, the Canada girls earned their place in the Jr. NBA Global Championship Final against the Central Girls (US), a team of returning champions from 2018 on Sunday, August 11th. The team placed second in the game.

“There was an admiration beaming from Canadian eyes that were glued to their screens.  Our ladies never gave up; they showed respect for themselves and their opponents and they fought until they were sure they saw zeroes appear on the game clock (and would have kept fighting if it wasn’t for the rules),” says the team.

On August 23, the City of Brampton will be hosting an award ceremony for the players and coaching staff of the Brampton Minor Basketball Association’s (BMBA) Brampton Warriors (U14 Girls). The event will be held at Brampton City Hall Conservatory, which is located at 2 Wellington Street West, from 12 to 2 p.m. Speakers include Councillor Gurpreet Dhillon, President of BMBA David Baah and Brampton Warriors (U14 Girls) Head Coach Keith Johnson.

Congratulations to Brampton Warriors (U14 Girls)!
