Peel Region is creeping closer to the 400 mark as daily COVID-19 cases in Mississauga and Brampton continue to rise.
New data released today shows 397 new cases of the virus in Peel which has contributed to the surge across Ontario.
Today’s data shows 2,169 people across the province have tested positive in the past 24 hours. Toronto accounts for 682 of the new cases. New cases in other nearby areas include 254 in York Region, 122 in Hamilton and 58 in Halton Region.
Ontario’s Health Ministry points out the variants of the original virus are beginning to take hold. Of all the news cases in the province today, almost half of the people tested positive for one of the variants.
The news about the variants has health officials across the province worried as many now believe the variants are not only more contagious than the original strain, but can also lead to severe outcomes such as hospitalization and even death.
