Arrest made in Brampton homicide investigation

Investigators from the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau have released information in relation to three shooting incidents that took place in Mississauga and Brampton between November 10 and November 20, 2018.
This includes the homicide of Jason Ramkishun on Highway 410.
On Sunday, November 10, 2018, just after 11:00 p.m., there was an altercation between multiple people on Delmonte Crescent in Mississauga.
24-year-old Travon Edwards-Bryan was armed with a firearm and fired numerous rounds at a male victim during this altercation.
Without sustaining any injuries, the victim fled in his 2013 Honda Accord.

Edwards-Bryan was arrested and charged in December 2018 with Attempt Murder and several firearm-related charges in relation to the incident. He is currently in custody awaiting trial.
This incident is believed to be the catalyst for the following events.
On Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at approximately 12:55 a.m., Jason Ramkishun was on his way home from work.
He was travelling north on Highway 410 by Courtney Park Drive in Mississauga in his 2014 Honda Accord when another vehicle pulled alongside his car and the occupants opened fire striking his vehicle.
Ramkishun was found in his vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds and he was transported to a trauma center where he died from his injuries.
Ramkishun and the victim of the shooting on Delmonte Crescent drove the same type of vehicle.
On Tuesday, November 20, 2018, shortly after 11:00 p.m., the male victim from the Delmonte Crescent shooting on November 10, 2018, was driving his 2013 Honda Accord northbound on Highway 410 just north of Derry Road in Brampton.
A vehicle pulled alongside his and two suspects began shooting.
The victim’s vehicle was struck numerous times and the victim himself was hit by gunfire, but the victim was able to drive himself to a local hospital and was then transported to a trauma centre.
He has since recovered from his physical injuries.
This past week, on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, the Homicide Bureau executed a number of search warrants and made several arrests in relation to these shootings.
Adrian Williams, a 25-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with First Degree murder involving Jason Ramkishun and Attempted murder of the victim on Highway 410 in Brampton. He was held for a bail hearing and attended the Ontario Court of Justice.
Akeem Williams, a 28-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with Attempted Murder of the victim on Highway 410 in Brampton. He was held for a bail hearing and attended the Ontario Court of Justice.
Janeque Elwood, a 26-year-old woman from Markham, was charged with Accessory after the fact to Murder. She was held for a bail hearing and attended the Ontario Court of Justice.
Shivon Grant, a 26-year-old woman from Milton, was charged with two counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking. She was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice.
Throughout this lengthy investigation, it became apparent that the people listed above, along with other associates, were involved in crimes related to guns and gangs.
A number of firearms were seized during this investigation and include a .45 calibre handgun, two 40 calibre handguns, five 9 mm handguns and 22 calibre Mossberg Assault rifles.
A total of 15 people have been arrested throughout this investigation and are facing over 115 firearm-related charges.
In August 2019, a Taurus semi-automatic .45 caliber handgun was seized during an investigation of a vehicle in Mississauga.
Along with the assistance of the Center of Forensics Sciences, it has been determined that this firearm was the same one used in the homicide of Jason Ramkishun and is also one of the two firearms used in the second 410 shooting in Brampton.
Jarrett Phillips, a 25-year-old man of no fixed address, has been associated to this .45 caliber firearm and is wanted for a number of firearm-related offences.
Police say Phillips is not involved in the homicide or the related attempted murder investigation and they are actively looking for Phillips. They are encouraging him to contact legal counsel and turn himself in.
Police would like to issue a reminder to anyone who may be assisting Phillips in evading arrest, that they could be subject to criminal charges themselves.
“No matter what the act of violence is that impacts individuals in our community, we will relentlessly pursue those responsible,” said Chief Duraiappah.
