At a September 2 conference, Mayor Patrick Brown discussed additional measures to deal with the ongoing COVID-19 crisis in Brampton.

Today’s conference featured Mayor Patrick Brown, Councillor Charmaine Williams and Dr. Lawrence Loh, Interim Medical Officer of Health, Peel Region.

Councillor Williams provided a bylaw update and stated that this past week, officers responded to 38 face-covering complaints that resulted in 13 charges being laid under the mandatory face-covering bylaw.

Since this bylaw came into effect on July 10, 2020, there have been a total of 397 face-covering complaints resulting in a total of 93 charges.

Additionally, this week there was one charge for failing to comply with orders under the reopening Ontario act due to a driving school instructor who had more than one student in his vehicle, according to Williams.

Williams also stated that there has been an increase in complaints related to loud music.

“This week there were 39 residential social gathering complaints and 93 complaints for loud music,” she said, reminding the public to be respectful of their neighbours.

“During the month of August, there were 415 complaints for loud music and 179 complaints for residential social gatherings,” said Williams.

“As we approach the long weekend, I want to remind everyone of the four core actions that we must take to combat COVID-19; and that is to stay apart, lather up, mask up and also get tested.”
