At a time when delicious comfort food is top of mind, Brampton residents will be thrilled to hear that they don’t have to travel all the way to Toronto to enjoy a gourmet prix fixe meal that’s lower on price and big on flavour.

The Taste of Downtown Brampton, a relatively new event beloved by local foodies, is being hosted by the Downtown Brampton BIA for the third year in a row.

The event, which boasts 20 participating restaurants, will kick off on Feb. 27 and run until March 11. With a generous two-week run time, guests will have the chance to sample all of the dishes downtown chefs have spiced up just for The Taste.

As for who diners can visit, participating restaurants include Cantina Fellini Wine Bar, Carve on Lot 5 (featured in cover photo), Dolcezza Custom Cakes, Fanzorelli’s Restaurant and Wine Bar, Fresh X-press, Freshly Thai, Joey’s Deli, La Capannina Restaurant, Little Shop of Ice Cream, MacaronZ, Nova Grill & Bakery, Queen Gypsy, Steaming Cups Café, Sunset Grill, The WORKS – Gourmet Burger Bistro Tracks Brewpub, Trish Juice, Vesuvio’s Ristorante, Wendel Clark’s Classic Grill & Bar and 7-Eleven.

While the food is definitely the highlight, the prices are also enticing.

“People can expect pricing anywhere between $15 for a prix-fixe menu all the way up to $40,” says Andrea Magana, Marketing and Events Specialist, Downtown Brampton BIA.

Diners can splurge on a gourmet dinner or treat themselves to a delectable lunch.

“Most restaurants focus specifically on providing a stellar dinner prix-fixe menu, but you can find a few restaurants, such as Freshly Thai, that do offer a lunch special,” says Magana.

The popular event is growing year over year, boasting a slew of new participants, including Fresh X-Press by J.Red, Freshly Thai, Steaming Cups Café, Sunset Grill, Trish Juice, and Vesuvio’s Ristorante.

As far as food goes, people can look forward to the new sampler plates being launched during this year’s Taste.

“Both Fanzorelli’s Restaurant and Wine Bar and Carve on Lot 5 are presenting a special sampler plate featuring their most popular eats, created by their chefs just for The Taste of Downtown Brampton,” says Magana.

Although the event has run a few times, it continues growing quickly in popularity.

“The Taste of Downtown Brampton has generated a lot of excitement in the local community,” says Suzy Godefroy, Executive Director of the Downtown Brampton BIA. “Bramptonians look forward to this culinary event and it’s also a great opportunity to discover the many shops and services in downtown Brampton.”

The event also allows resto owners to increase their clientele, as they can attract more customers excited to try creative, customized menus.

“The restaurant owners and head chefs look forward to this event every year. The Taste gives them an opportunity to ‘wow’ existing and new customers with their fantastic dishes,” says Magana.

Another great incentive to enjoy the Taste of Downtown Brampton is that with each restaurant a diner visits, they’ll get a ballot for purchasing their special or prix-fixe menu. This automatically enters them to win one of 25 gift cards as well as one of three grand prizes: $500 in downtown foodie dollars!
