In spite of some unfortunate news over post secondary education opportunities, Brampton is still a city with some energetic and vibrant entrepreneurs looking to get that crucial break and find success in the new gig economy.

Over the summer, a number of Brampton students received grants of up to $3,000 to run their own companies, so there is a talent pool within Canada’s ninth largest city. And now there is another chance for budding businesspeople to pitch their ideas and network with other entrepreneurs.

The Peel Global Startup Weekend is running from November 2 to 4 at the West Tower of Brampton City Hall. Teams will create a prototype of their idea, validate the business idea, and receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs.

But this time there is an additional special guest attending Peel Startup Weekend. Nicole Verkindt, the founder of Offset Market Exchange (OMX) and one of the Dragons on CBC’s Dragon’s Den.

Incoming Brampton mayor Patrick Brown was very happy about Verkindt’s appearance in the city for Startup Weekend.

This event is a great opportunity for aspiring future business owners and ‘influence makers’ to network, and the chance to meet a Dragon could be the best time to get the career advice that makes you or breaks you.

Will you be attending?
