5 Places to Hit Up for Brunch on New Year’s Day in Brampton

Published December 30, 2016 at 8:14 pm

Every good New Year’s Eve celebration should be followed by a classy, fulsome brunch full of creative dishes and, if they’re available, flavourful mimosas. Even if you party hard — really, really hard — there should be some room (maybe a lot) in your alcohol-fatigued body for eggs Benedict and late morning/early afternoon champagne (with orange juice, of course).

If you’re looking for some brunch options on New Year’s Day, Brampton has a few gems worth checking out (in no particular order).

5) Poutine Dare to be Fresh

This incredibly creative poutine joint is, fortunately, open on New Year’s Day and will be able to serve you a decadent post-hangover meal starting at noon on Jan. 1. If you’re in the mood for a fun breakfast concoction, you can grab one of their tasty farmer’s market poutines with two fried eggs and Canadian back bacon. If you want to skip right to lunch, you can try a buffalo chicken or duck poutine.

4) Wally’s on Steeles

This all day breakfast joint, greasy spoon, and family resto at Steeles and Dixie is a truck stop you do not want to miss. Wally’s has got the hangover breakfast or even the brunch you’re craving on New Year’s Day in a large portion size starting at 9 a.m. Try the big Wally breakfast if you’re really hungry, it comes with three eggs, homefries, and toast, plus bacon, ham, and sausage, and your choice of pancakes or french toast. Wally’s also has breakfast sandwiches, they make a mean eggs florentine, and they even have waffles – yum! We also can’t forget that their service is on point.

3) John’s Family Restaurant

If you want to hit this Fisherman’s Drive hotspot on New Year’s Day, be prepared to wait a few minutes for a table. John’s Family Restaurant, a tasty establishment known for serving breakfast, brunch and Greek and Italian fare, is a casual restaurant run by friendly servers that’s augmented by a filling and delicious menu. While a lot of more casual restaurants tend to serve decidedly ordinary Benedicts, John’s offers a delicious smoked salmon Benny that’s heavy on both fish and flavour. The hollandaise is also subtle, memorable and delicious. As far as staples go, the eggs, bacon, sausages and pancakes are perfectly prepared and wonderfully filling. The breakfast potatoes are also exceptional, as they’re comprised of the real deal—no store-bought cubes here! The restaurant will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to serve breakfast/brunch.

2) Stacy Lee’s Family Restaurant

This restaurant is legendary in Brampton and its popularity is apparent the moment you walk through the door. Dramatically understated on the outside and somewhat spartan on the in, Stacy Lee’s thrives by serving up hearty breakfast fare and shredded hash browns (although you have to ask for them specifically). Located on McLaughlin Road near Queen, this place is perfect for straight up bacon and eggs, pancakes, waffles, French toast, Benedicts and a cool concoction comprised of a moist croissant, egg and cheese. Fortunately for you, it’s open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and serving its delectable breakfast/brunch dishes all day on New Year’s Day.

1) Marriott Courtyard Brampton: The Bistro

This hotel boasts The Bistro restaurant and it is open on New Year’s Day, so it’s a great option if you want your morning to be extra-refined (or if you spent the night at the hotel and need a good, filling meal to fill your tummy after a night of cocktails and champagne). The restaurant will be serving breakfast during regular hours (7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.) and the offerings include oatmeal, egg white frittatas, french toast, eggs, breakfast sandwiches and more. If you desperately need a good morning coffee, you can order a latte, mocha, caramel macchiato and more.
