York Region Public Health has confirmed a COVID-19 outbreak at a window manufacturing facility in Vaughan and the majority of the affected individuals are from Peel Region.

According to a public notice posted on Sunday (Nov. 29) to the York Public Health website, officials said they were notified of the first case at State Windows Corporation located on Hunter’s Valley Road, just east of Highway 50, on Nov 10.

There has been a total of 62 confirmed cases associated with this workplace and 28 of them are from Peel Region.
Seven are from York Region, 22 are from the City of Toronto and five are from Simcoe-Muskoka.

In addition to these 62 cases, public health says there are also five probable cases and one case under investigation.
Based on the investigation conducted to date, York Regional Public Health declared an outbreak at this facility on Nov 20.

York Public Health states that an on-site inspection has been conducted and they will continue to work with the employer to identify additional cases and identify close contacts associated with the confirmed cases.

York Region Public Health is also working with the Ministry of Labour for the ongoing investigation and say that this is the second outbreak declared at this workplace. The first was declared on May 17 and saw 17 people test positive for the virus.

On Nov 20, York Public Health recommended a range of prevention measures and have provided face shields, sanitizer, and disinfecting wipes to workers.

Additional actions taken by the employer include clearing of lunchroom tables after every use and introducing multi-lingual screeners to address language barriers.

York Regional Public Health says they will continue to monitor the situation closely and will work with State Windows Corporation and the Ministry of Labour.
