The host of of the 2020 JUNO Awards has been announced and it’s no other than Brampton’s own Alessia Cara.

The Canadian singer-songwriter and two-time Grammy winner will also be performing at the awards and has been nominated for six awards this year, including artist of the year.

The Juno Awards, which first began in February 1970, is a coveted Canadian music awards celebration that acknowledges musical artists and bands in Canada and celebrates their artistic achievements in music.

“To be asked to host the 49th annual JUNO Awards Broadcast is such an incredible honour,” said Cara, in a release.

“I am ecstatic to be a part of the largest celebration of Canadian music and can’t wait to see what the country’s top talent has in store.”

This year’s JUNO Awards will take place at Saskatoon’s SaskTel Centre on March 15, 2020.

Cara, who is best known for her first single “Here,” released in 2015, is now recognized worldwide in the music scene and in 2018, became the first Canadian-bord musician to win the Grammy award for best new artist.

This year, three other Brampton artists have been nominated for awards; Jessie Reyez, Tory Lanez and Exco Levi.
